UCSF Web Site for Breast Cancer Trials

Does someone you love have breast cancer? Learn about trials of new therapies at breast cancer trials homepage. The project is sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the University of California San Francisco Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the Center of Excellence for Breast Cancer Care.

The pilot Web site--called www.BreastCancerTrials.org--helps match breast cancer patients to clinical trials. The site is the first of its kind to be created by a non-profit organization and was created with the help of Web-savvy breast cancer patients. Ellyn Glazer Cohen, project manager, said patients create an online personal health record that is then matched to the eligibility criteria of registered clinical trials. Patients can find clinical trials on the site or can sign up to be alerted via email when new trials are registered. Currently, the test site lists trials in the Bay Area and Sacramento.

Patient information is used only to match patients to clinical trials. With permission from patients using an online consent process, patient information is released to a clinical trial research site. All patient data are protected with a password and stored securely at the NCI.
