UCSF Co-Hosts Seminar for Patients Living With Lung Disease

WHAT — UCSF Medical Center will team up with the Coalition for Pulmonary Fibrosis and Stanford University Medical Center to host a free seminar for patients and families living with the lung disorder known as IPF, or idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. The seminar will address complications surrounding proper diagnosis of IPF, emerging research, new approaches in treatment, and lung transplantation.

WHO — Nationally recognized experts in the clinical research, treatment and rehabilitation of IPF, including Dr. Jeffrey Golden, medical director of lung transplantation and director of the Bronchoscopy Service and of the Interstitial Lung Center of Excellence at UCSF Medical Center.

ABOUT IPF — IPF is a lung disorder characterized by a progressive scarring — known as fibrosis — and deterioration of the lungs, which slowly robs its victims of their ability to breathe. About 128,000 Americans suffer from IPF, the most prevalent disease in a classification of lung disorders known as interstitial lung diseases (ILDs). There is currently no known cause or cure for IPF and no FDA-approved treatment. An estimated 48,000 new cases are diagnosed each year.
