Two California Leaders to be Honored for Fighting Domestic Violence

California Congresswoman Lois Capps and Bruce Bodaken, chief executive officer of Blue Shield of California, will be honored during a March 16 reception at the Asian Art Museum for their continued efforts to combat domestic violence.

The event is part of the 2007 National Conference on Health and Domestic Violence, co-sponsored by the Family Violence Prevention Fund and the UCSF National Center of Excellence in Women's Health.

Titled "Celebrating Heroes in Healthcare," the reception will take place from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. at 200 Larkin St. in San Francisco. Tickets cost $35 and can be purchased at the door.

The price includes beverages, hors d'oeuvres and access to all exhibits at the museum. Musicians from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music will perform. Attire is business casual.

The reception will close the first day of the biennial conference, which is attracting the nation's leading medical, public health and family violence experts in an effort to improve the health care system's response to domestic violence.

Workshops and plenary sessions will highlight the latest research and innovative clinical responses to domestic violence, with a focus on the work being done by physicians, physician assistants, dentists, nurses, nurse midwives, mental and behavioral health providers, social workers, domestic violence experts, and others.
