Free Skin Cancer Screenings Offered in the Castro on May 10

May 05, 2008
News Office: Vanessa deGier (415) 476-2557

The public is invited to undergo free skin cancer screenings conducted by UCSF dermatologists in recognition of National Skin Cancer Awareness Month. This is the first year UCSF is conducting its annual event off-site in an effort to offer free screenings to more members of the community and provide tools and tips for staying safe in the sun. No appointment is necessary.

Despite increased awareness about the harmful effects of the sun, skin cancer is rising and more than one million new cases will be diagnosed in the United States this year, according to the American Cancer Society. One in five Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime. Early detection of skin cancer can dramatically improve survival rates.

Saturday, May 10, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Castro-Mission Health Center 3850 17th Street (at Noe), San Francisco

UCSF dermatology experts, individuals undergoing screening and skin cancer survivors will be on hand to answer questions and provide personal stories.
