Audiology provides advanced diagnostic and electrophysiologic testing for adults and children with hearing loss. A full-service hearing aid dispensing program offers a wide range of fully digital instruments as well as other assistive listening devices.
The UCSF Audiology Clinic works closely with a variety of medical departments to provide state-of-the-art audiologic testing for individuals of all ages. Comprehensive evaluation and treatment is provided for hearing loss, hyperacusis, tinnitus and dizziness, vertigo and balance-related disorders.
Cochlear implantation, the electrical stimulation of the inner ear for the rehabilitation of profound deafness, is performed by the Douglas Grant Cochlear Implant Center. In addition, UCSF otolaryngologists — or ear, nose and throat specialists — can provide treatment for other ear and temporal bone disorders.
The audiology clinic offers communication need assessments, assistive listening device evaluation and dispensing, and a wide range of procedures and services including:
- Auditory brainstem, middle latency and late evoked response testing
- Aural rehabilitation
- Balance therapy
- Custom hearing protection and musicians' earplugs
- Electrocochleography (ECochG)
- Electronystagmography (ENG and VNG)
- Hearing aid electroacoustic analysis
- Medical and legal audiologic evaluation
- Listening and communication enhancement (LACE)
- Middle ear function assessment
- Otoacoustic emission testing
- Ototoxicity monitoring
- Pediatric audiology and infant testing
- Real ear probe microphone testing
- Vestibular rehabilitation
