Hyperacusis

To Visit Us

UCSF Audiology is located at 2330 Post Street, Suite 270, in San Francisco.

To make an appointment, please call (415) 353-2101. To determine if hyperacusis is related to a treatable or a systemic condition, we urge patients, prior to their visit, to complete a physical examination including laboratory tests to identify vascular, renal, and autoimmune disorders. We also recommend radiologic studies designed to identify benign growths.

If you have not had an audiological evaluation in the past six months, please notify the receptionist when making an appointment so sufficient time can be scheduled to include this during your appointment.

Please fill out Hyperacusis New Patient Information Form (PDF). Print, fill out and bring the forms, or fax or mail them to us before an appointment. Read more information about becoming a patient and your first appointment. Please bring any audiological records you have to the appointment.

For more information or to schedule an appointment, please call Audiology at (415) 353-2101.

Most insurance companies do not cover the costs for hyperacusis counseling. The self-pay fee for the initial session is about $300. This fee does not cover the cost of hearing aids, earplugs or electronic sound generating devices. If additional tests are required, they will be billed to insurance, if coverage is available and if authorization has been obtained.

If you are a member of an HMO, plese obtain written authorization from your HMO for the procedures you expected to undergo. If the insurance company does not cover any or all of these procedures, or if pre-authorization for each procedure has not been obtaiined, you'll be expected to pay in full at the time of your appointment.
