Nurses Jnani Chapman, massage therapist and yoga teacherJnani Chapman is a certified massage therapist and yoga teacher who has been in practice since 1975. She has specialized in adapting massage and yoga for people with medical conditions, primarily cancer patients, heart patients and people with chronic illness since 1986. Chapman serves as the massage coordinator and is a yoga teacher for the Commonweal Cancer Help Program, an award winning nationally recognized program in Bolinas, Calif., where she has been a senior staff member since 1986. She also is the massage coordinator for the Smith Farm Cancer Help Program in Washington, D.C., and is the past-executive director of the International Association of Yoga Therapists.
From 1986 to 1999, Chapman was a stress-management specialist yoga teacher for Dr. Dean Ornish's Program for Reversing Heart Disease. She received her nursing degree from the University of San Francisco, her massage therapy certificate from the Acupressure Institute in Berkeley and her Yoga certifications from the Integral Yoga Institutes and Ashram in Buckingham, Va.
