Research
Several groups at UCSF conduct research on osteoporosis.
- The Osteoporosis Center at Mount Zion: Dr. Deborah Sellmeyer, the center's director, conducts research on nutrition and lifestyle factors associated with calcium balance and bone loss. To join the mailing list to receive notices when participants are being recruited, please call (415) 353-9720.
- Prevention Sciences Group: This group of researchers coordinates large multi-center trials in osteoporosis and other diseases of aging but doesn't do its own clinical studies with patients. The coordinating center provides a full range of services to support multi-center studies, from study design and coordination of clinical centers to data management, quality control, analysis and publication.
- Osteoporosis and Arthritis Research Group (OARG): This UCSF group, located at Parnassus, has conducted numerous single-center studies as well as large, multi-center clinical trials examining the effects of medications on both bone density and fracture risk. For more information on trials being conducted by the group, please call (415) 476-2867.
