Research
The UCSF Pain Clinical Research Center (PCRC) is currently enrolling patients with acute herpes zoster, or shingles, to determine why some people develop post-herpetic neuralgia from shingles. The study will follow participants for six months, beginning from the time they have their first outbreak of shingles. Patients will need to make four visits to the center where questionnaires, biopsies and other procedures will take place. Patients will be paid up to $600 for their participation.
For more information, please call (415) 885-7899 and ask about the shingles study.
Other pain conditions being studied by the PCRC include nerve damage from other causes, fibromyalgia, lower back pain and painful carpal tunnel syndrome.
