Phantom Tooth Syndrome

Phantom tooth syndrome is a common type of orofacial pain disorder, which is a group of conditions that cause varying degrees of chronic pain in the head, neck, teeth and jaw. Phantom tooth syndrome causes significant pain in the teeth. Like other types of orofacial pain disorders, it originates from the brain and nerves of the head, face and neck.

At UCSF Medical Center, our Orofacial Pain Center specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of orofacial pain disorders. We understand that these are significant medical conditions that can greatly affect your quality of life. When evaluating and treating each patient, we employ a clinical approach that incorporates the expertise of various specialists. Our team includes dentists specializing in orofacial pain, a radiologist, physical therapist, pharmacist, psychologist and acupuncturist.

We offer both conventional and innovative treatment approaches, including medications, dental treatments, stress management techniques, self-care therapies and acupuncture.

For information or to make an appointment, please call: Orofacial Pain Center at (415) 476-8298.
