The hands and arms are the body's workhorses. The UCSF Hand, Upper Extremity and Microvascular Surgery Center includes a team of doctors who diagnose and treat conditions — such as Dupuytren's contracture, fractures of the hand and wrist and osteoarthritis — that affect the fingertips to the elbow.
Microvascular surgery — which involves operating on the tiny veins and arteries that bring sustaining blood to the hands — is one of the state-of-the-art treatments we offer.
Much of our work, both surgery as well as other treatments, is based on studies of current treatments as well as research on new treatments.
