Nurses Sally McLaughlin, advanced lung disease nurseSally McLaughlin is the advanced lung disease nurse working with the Interstitial Lung Disease Program at UCSF Medical Center since 2003. She earned a bachelor's degree in nutritional sciences at UC Berkeley and a master's of science degree in nursing from California State University, Los Angeles. Other Experts Jane Berkeley, clinical research coordinatorJane Berkeley is responsible for coordinating local research projects for the Interstitial Lung Disease Program and managing the programs research database. She also assists with the interstitial lung disease support group. Berkeley received her B.A. in psychology from Smith College in 2007. She joined the Interstitial Lung Disease Program in 2008.
Archer Eller, clinical research coordinatorArcher Eller is a clinical research coordinator for the Interstitial Lung Disease Program, where he manages research studies that investigate ways to prevent worsening of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and complications of lung transplants. Eller has been involved in research and patient education programs for more than 10 years, and is passionate about patient advocacy.
Eller joined the Interstitial Lung Disease Program in 2008. Before that, he worked mainly in the endocrinology field developing patient-centered diabetes control programs. He has a Bachelor of Science in dietetics and a Master of Science in exercise physiology. He's also a registered dietitian, a certified diabetes educator and an avid softball player. Dr. Antonio Gomez, pulmonary and critical care fellowDr. Antonio Gomez is a senior pulmonary and critical care fellow specializing in the care of patients with interstitial lung disease (ILD). Fellows are medical doctors completing advanced training in a specialty. In addition to treating patients, Gomez helps conduct research focusing on the diagnosis, management and treatment of granulomatous lung diseases such as sarcoidosis. Gomez received his medical degree from the University of California, Davis and completed his residency and chief residency at UCSF. Renee Jeffrey, research coodinatorRenee Jeffrey is responsible for coordinating clinical trials sponsored by the Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis Clinical Research Network, a National Institute of Health-sponsored group. Jeffrey received her B.A. in psychology from the University of Colorado, Boulder and has coordinated clinical trials since 2005. She joined the Interstitial Lung Disease Program in 2007. Dr. Eunice Kim, pulmonary and critical care fellowDr. Eunice Kim is a senior pulmonary and critical care fellow specializing in the care of patients with interstitial lung disease (ILD). Fellows are medical doctors completing advanced training in a specialty. In addition to treating patients, Kim helps conduct research focusing on interstitial lung disease associated with connective tissue — also called rheumatologic, autoimmune or collagen vascular diseases. These include scleroderma, rheumatoid arthritis and lupus, among others. Kim received her medical degree from the University of California, San Diego and completed her internal medicine residency at UCSF. Dr. Joyce Lee, pulmonary and critical care fellowDr. Joyce Lee is a senior pulmonary and critical care fellow specializing in the care of patients with interstitial lung disease (ILD). Fellows are medical doctors completing advanced training in a specialty. In addition to treating patients, Lee helps conduct research focusing on the role of gastroesophageal reflux and microaspiration (inhalation of small droplets of stomach contents) in the development and progression of pulmonary fibrosis. Lee received her medical degree from Northwestern University in Chicago, Ill., and completed her internship and residency at the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University. Before starting her fellowship, Lee was a post-doctoral research fellow in the UCSF Cardiovascular Research Institute. Jill Obata, research coordinatorJill Obata is a research coordinator for the Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) Program. She has worked on multiple clinical trials looking at ways to prevent the worsening of interstitial pulmonary fibrosis and to prevent complications among lung transplant patients. She joined the ILD program in 2003. Obata holds a B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley. She received her Master of Science in Nursing and Post Master's Adult Nurse Practitioner Certificate from the Yale School of Nursing.
Dr. Chris Ryerson, pulmonary and critical care fellowDr. Chris Ryerson is a pulmonary and critical care fellow specializing in the care of patients with interstitial lung disease (ILD). Fellows are medical doctors completing advanced training in a specialty. In addition to treating patients, Ryerson helps conduct research on dyspnea, or labored breathing, and quality of life in patients with ILD. Ryerson received his medical degree from the University of Western Ontario in Ontario, Canada, and completed his internship and residency at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada.
