Occupational Lung Disease

Occupational lung disease can be caused by exposure to substances in the workplace, such as dust, smoke, fumes, gases, mist, sprays and vapors. Such exposures can lead to temporary or chronic breathing conditions. Although repeated, long-term exposures can lead to occupational lung disease, single very large exposures can also cause certain disorders. It is also important to remember that nowadays the home often doubles as the workplace so exposure can occur inside the home.

At UCSF Medical Center, our team of occupational lung disease experts offers complete evaluation and diagnosis of patients with suspected work-related lung disease, as well as management and treatment. We also coordinate assessment of environmentally related lung disease.

For more information or to make an appointment, please call: Pulmonary Medicine (415) 353-2961

You may need a referral from your primary care doctor and, in the case of some work-related evaluations, prior approval of your workers' compensation carrier. Please check with your health insurance representative.
