Conditions and Treatments
Spine deformities most commonly are acquired during growth. We don't know what causes most spinal deformities, but early identification and treatment may limit future progression of the deformity. Spinal deformity also may result from birth defects in the development of the spine or from previous surgery resulting in decompensation or malalignment of the spinal column. Spinal deformity treatment is intended to prevent the consequences of deformity progression and improve the patient's quality of life.
