The UCSF Center for Reproductive Health — the first in vitro fertilization (IVF) program in the San Francisco Bay Area — is a leader in the field with consistently high pregnancy rates.
The first UCSF IVF patient was treated in 1983. The following year, the first UCSF IVF babies were born to couples who shared in our role as forerunners in assisted reproductive technology. We also were the first in the area to achieve a pregnancy and birth through the use of intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), a technique that requires just one sperm for every egg fertilized.
Our success is the result of outstanding doctors and expert use of the latest technologies and personalized care. Our team cares for couples with knowledge, understanding and respect and recognize that infertility treatments can be difficult.
For women, our services include:
Women who face multiple births can participate in a program called Twins and More to guide them and their families through these higher risk pregnancies.
For men, our services include:
We have a Male Reproductive Health Center, a full service facility to treat male fertility problems, and a Male Reproductive Laboratory that offers a complete range of diagnostic tests for sperm disorders.
Free Patient Orientations
Each month, we offer a free orientation to provide new and prospective patients the opportunity to meet our clinical team and ask questions, view a slide presentation about IVF and talk with others who are considering treatment. These orientations are held from 5:30 to 8 p.m., on the first Monday of each month in the Herbst Auditorium of UCSF Medical Center at Mount Zion, 1600 Divisadero St., San Francisco. (If a holiday falls on the first Monday, the orientation is held on the second Monday of the month.)
To register for the orientation, call (415) 353-7475 and select option 1.
