Our Clinics

UCSF Medical Center is one of the nation's top 10 hospitals, according to U.S. News & World Report. We are recognized throughout the world as a leader in medicine, known for compassionate and innovative care. With the resources of an academic medical center, we provide special services that often aren't available elsewhere in the community.

Our expertise covers virtually all areas of health care including cancer, heart disease, organ transplantation, orthopedics, neurological disorders and pediatrics. Our more than 900 doctors not only have access to the latest technologies, they are often the doctors who develop them.

UCSF Medical Center at Parnassus (Directions and Map)

UCSF Medical Center at Parnassus is located at 505 Parnassus Ave., near Golden Gate Park. Our hospital and clinics cover almost six blocks, an expanse we share with UCSF's health sciences schools. Today, our 15-story, 600-bed main hospital is composed of two adjoining buildings as well as our UCSF Children's Hospital.

The 180-bed UCSF Children's Hospital is a "hospital within a hospital," cradled within the larger facility on the sixth, seventh and 15th floors. It includes the Center for Mothers and Newborns, a pediatric intensive care unit, a neonatal intensive care nursery linked to a Birth Center on the 15th floor, and a pediatric surgical suite.

We are known for our care of patients - both children and adults -- requiring organ transplants such as liver, kidney, pancreas, heart and heart-lung transplants. Because of our outstanding care, we are designated a "Center of Excellence" by many major insurance providers nationwide and serve as a referral center for the most complex cases.

Our areas of expertise include cancer care, cardiac care, fertility treatments, neurosurgery, ophthalmology and orthopedics. In cardiac care, we are known for our programs in the treatment of arrhythmia or abnormal heart rhythm; chest pain management; vascular disease; and severe heart failure, providing treatment long-term or until a heart transplant can be performed.

At Parnassus, our clinics are centralized in the Ambulatory Care Center, across from the hospital, at 400 Parnassus Ave. Clinics include AIDS treatment, cardiology, dermatology, epilepsy care, gastroenterology, geriatrics, neurology, occupational medicine and ophthalmology.

Our Emergency Department is located on the east side of the hospital on Parnassus Avenue.

UCSF Medical Center at Mount Zion (Directions and Map)

UCSF Medical Center at Mount Zion has been transformed from a traditional hospital to an innovative hub of specialized clinics and surgery services as well as a center for comprehensive cancer care. We are located in the heart of San Francisco with our main facility at 1600 Divisadero St., between Sutter and Post streets, about two-and-a-half miles from UCSF Medical Center at Parnassus.

Our growing network of outpatient services includes comprehensive diagnostic care, audiology, cochlear implant center, dermatology and adult and pediatric primary care as well as our Surgery Center. In addition, Mount Zion maintains eight operating rooms and a 90-bed inpatient unit.

Perhaps the best known service at Mount Zion is the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, which has won the National Cancer Institute's highest designation -- "comprehensive" -- for innovative research and cutting-edge patient care. The center is dedicated to researching, diagnosing and treating many forms of the disease. A state-of-the-art, five-story outpatient center is part of this complex. The center offers a variety of support services to patients and their families. A Cancer Resource Center, for example, contains books, pamphlets and other reading material and provides computers with Internet access for gathering health information.

Other specialized centers include the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine, Sports Medicine Center, national Center of Excellence in Women's Health, Sleep Disorders Clinic and Pain Management Center.
