Clinical Laboratories at UCSF Medical Center perform diagnostic or lab tests for patients in our hospitals and clinics as well as for our researchers. Your doctor may prescribe certain tests to better understand your medical condition. These tests are performed in the areas of chemistry, hematology or blood, immunology, microbiology, molecular diagnostics, toxicology and transfusion medicine.

Laboratories are located at our China Basin, Mount Zion and Parnassus campuses. These labs perform more than 4.2 million tests a year. The laboratories are state licensed, certified under the federal Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) and accredited with distinction by the College of American Pathologists (CAP).

In addition to laboratories, the department offers other services including the UCSF Blood Center, which operates a blood donor program and provides UCSF patients with safe, screened blood products.
