RunSafe — Healthy Runners Clinic

RunSafe is a program of UCSF Sports Medicine for runners of all levels — from the novice to the seasoned competitor. Our sports medicine specialists provide counselling and biomechanical assessment of your running and training patterns to help you learn to prevent injuries and practice safe training methods.

Your visit will take about two hours. You'll be assessed by each member of our team, including a sports medicine doctor, physical therapist, sports dietitian and orthotics and prosthetics specialists.

Based on your assessment, you'll receive a "report card" with detailed findings and recommendations on how to improve your running and training, including pictures of suggested exercises and training drills.

Within three weeks of your visit, you'll receive a DVD of your running gait analysis and a RunSafe long-sleeve, Dri-Tek training shirt.

Your assessment will include:

Video Gait Analysis — Your running biomechanics will be evaluated from multiple camera angles with computerized motion analysis software by our sports medicine doctor.

Strength and Flexibility Assessment — Your functional strength and flexibility, using focused assessment techniques, will be evaluated by our physical therapist.

Nutritional Analysis and Counselling — Our registered sports medicine dietitian will discuss your nutritional habits and make personalized recommendations that support your athletic goals.

Foot Dynamics and Footwear Assessment — Your foot shape and dynamics as well as your footwear will be assessed by certified orthotics and prosthetics experts.

Debriefing and Recommendations — We'll discuss the results with you and provide a personalized "report card," outlining the findings and recommendations from our team.
