Skin Cancer and Transplant Recipients

Organ transplant recipients have a high risk of developing skin cancer. One in about 20 transplant patients die of skin-related malignancies. That's because skin cancers that develop in transplant patients tend to be more aggressive, have a higher rate of recurrence and spread to other parts of the body.

Dermatology at UCSF Medical Center offers seminars to educate transplant recipients about the potential risk of skin cancer, including early detection, preventive strategies and treatment options.

Speakers at the seminar include UCSF dermatologists. Patients have an opportunity to ask questions at the end of each seminar during a Q&A session and reception.

Seminars are open to the public with no advance registration. Refreshments are served and parking is validated. All organ transplant patients are encouraged to attend, before and after transplant surgery. Health care professionals are invited to attend the seminars as well.
