Michael W. McDermott, F.R.C.S.C., M.D.

Co-director of Gamma Knife Radiosurgery

Dr. Michael W. McDermott is co-director of the Gamma Knife Radiosurgery Program at UCSF Medical Center and an associate professor of neurological surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. His specialty is stereotactic neurosurgery and Gamma Knife radiosurgery, in particular for tumors of the central nervous system, meningiomas and skull base surgery.

McDermott cares for patients with a wide range of conditions including brain tumors, neurological cancers, central nervous system infections and hydrocephalus. He earned a medical degree cum laude from the University of Toronto. After completing a residency in neurosurgery at the University of British Columbia, he was awarded a research fellowship in the Neuro-Oncology Program of the Brain Tumor Research Center at UCSF Medical Center.
