Free Skin Cancer Screening on May 6

March 16, 2006
News Office: Nancy Chan (415) 476-2557

A free skin cancer screening will be held on Saturday, May 6 at UCSF Medical Center as part of a national effort to set a new Guinness World Record.

The event, which is open to the public, will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at UCSF Medical Center at Mount Zion, 1701 Divisadero St., third floor, in San Francisco. No appointment is necessary.

Sponsored by the UCSF Department of Dermatology and the American Academy of Dermatology, the event is part of a nationwide attempt to beat an existing record by screening more than 5,606 Americans in a single day.

Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer. May has been designated as Melanoma/Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month by the American Academy of Dermatology. In addition to a free screening, participants will receive information about sun protection and self examinations for skin cancer.

UCSF is a leading university that consistently defines health care worldwide by conducting advanced biomedical research, educating graduate students in the life sciences and providing complex patient care.
