Dr. Mort Cowan still keeps in close contact with Melissa Macalisang (front center), 9-years-old, and her parents and siblings. Melissa had a special bone marrow stem cell transplant from her father at UCSF when she was nearly four. Cowan developed this novel technique and performed the transplant.
