Signs and Symptoms Hemifacial microsomia is a condition in which the structures on one side of the face are smaller (underdeveloped) than those on the other side. Although the ear and the mandible always are affected, the severity of this underdevelopment varies widely among individuals.
Bilateral hemifacial microsomia is when both sides of the face are affected.
