Intensive Care Nursery Follow-Up Program
The Intensive Care Nursery (ICN) Follow-Up Program assesses the neurodevelopmental progress of infants discharged from the Intensive Care Nursery. Infants who are followed for growth and development include those weighing less than 1500 grams at birth, infants requiring ECMO treatment, infants receiving fetal surgical intervention and other at-risk infants.
The program provides parent support after discharge, early identification of developmental disabililties and referral for service if indicated, liaison with community physicians and agencies involved with the care of the ICN graduate and information on outcome to enhance of the care of infants currently in the ICN.
Infants and children are seen in San Francisco as well as in satellite clinics in Clear Lake, Eureka, Salinas, Santa Rosa, Ukiah and Willits, with clinics at other sites as needed.
The core staff consists of a neonatologist trained in developmental and behavioral pediatrics, a psychologist, a nurse, a coordinator and a physical therapy consultant.
