Plastic surgeons at the Breast Care Plastic Surgery Clinic offer breast reconstruction to women of all ages. Breast reconstruction — surgery to rebuild a breast's shape — is often an option after mastectomy. Some health insurance plans pay for all or part of the cost of breast reconstruction, and for surgery to the other breast so both breasts are similar in shape and size.
A reconstructed breast will not have natural sensation, but surgery can give you a result that looks like a breast. If you are thinking about reconstruction, talk with a plastic surgeon before your mastectomy. Some women begin reconstruction at the same time as the mastectomy, while others wait several months or even years.
For more information, see our patient education material on breast reconstruction.
Depending on your health insurance, you may need a referral from a primary care doctor.
