Cardiac Surgery Program

The UCSF Cardiac Surgery Program offers a variety of advanced surgical methods to treat heart conditions. Our mission is to provide patients with minimally invasive options, so they have the best possible outcomes as well as shorter recovery times compared with traditional open-heart surgery.

In recent years, many minimally invasive techniques have emerged for treating cardiac valve disease. Our team includes surgeons with extensive training in these procedures, including special expertise in robot-assisted surgery. We offer the full range of minimally invasive approaches for heart valve repair and replacement, such as mitral valve repair and transcatheter aortic valve replacement. We also perform coronary artery bypass grafting and heart transplantation. Our surgeons have access to state-of-the-art technologies, making complex surgeries safer and more effective.

Being accessible to our patients is important to us. We offer telehealth visits to make it easier for patients who live outside the Bay Area to receive our care.

U.S. News & World Report ranks UCSF as one of the top hospitals in the nation for cardiac surgery. The cardiothoracic surgery team is also particularly proud that we consistently earn one of the highest patient satisfaction scores among specialty clinics at UCSF Health. Our patients are truly at the heart of everything we do.
