Center on Deafness

For more than 35 years, UCSF's Center on Deafness has provided a range of outpatient mental health services for people who are deaf or hard of hearing. We also offer these patients substance abuse services and school-based mental health services, as well as a range of other specialized programs. Services are available to children, teens, adults and their families and partners.

Deaf Drug and Alcohol Recovery Services (DDARS):

  • Individual counseling
  • Addiction assessment
  • Support groups
  • Dual diagnosis services
  • Relapse prevention education
  • Co-dependency support group
  • Case management
  • Education about substance abuse and co-dependency
  • Referrals to other services, including detoxification programs and residential substance abuse programs
Drop-in Case Management Services:

Drop-in case management services are available to any deaf or hard of hearing San Francisco resident. Our team members work with patients to:

  • Help understand letters and mail
  • Make important phone calls
  • Help budget finances and assist with housing and medical needs
  • Help to obtain services from other programs or agencies
