General Internal Medicine at Sutter Street provides patients with primary care services. Our health care professionals coordinate your care as well as treat specific conditions. They are experts in preventive medicine, health monitoring, testing and special treatment programs such as weight management, behavioral health and diabetes follow-up, and provide referrals to specialists when needed. Depending on your needs, you may be seen by a doctor, nurse practitioner, nurse, psychologist or dietitian.
As an academic medical center, we participate in a residency program. Residents are doctors pursuing training in internal medicine. Residents and "attending" physicians work in teams to provide care. You may be seen by a resident or an attending physician during your appointment.
