Travel Clinic

The UCSF Travel Medicine and Immunization Clinic provides care for those planning to travel to a developing country or who have concerns about travel-related illnesses. The clinic specializes in the treatment of travelers who are immunocompromised or have other complex health conditions. All patients are cared for by an infectious disease specialist and a pharmacist.

Clinic visits include a pre-travel medical evaluation, education about prevention of illness and prescriptions for medications to prevent conditions such as diarrhea and diseases transmitted by insects. The clinic also administers immunizations for diseases such as diphtheria, flu, hepatitis A, Japanese encephalitis, meningococcal meningitis, pertussis or whooping cough, rabies, tetanus, typhoid and yellow fever.

Preparing for Your Appointment

Some immunizations require a series of injections over a three-to-four-week period and take weeks to reach full effectiveness. Please make your appointment at least six to eight weeks prior to your departure to ensure full protection during travel.

After your appointment is scheduled, please go to the website www.travelmdus.org to complete an online form. Click on "U California, San Francisco" as the location of your appointment.

We participate in the Global TravEpi Network, which allows us to gather information online. Please complete the form before your appointment.

You will be asked for information regarding your travel plans and will receive a confirmation number that will allow us to access the information during your appointment. You will not be asked to provide any identifying information online such as your name, address, social security number or date of birth.
