Cristina Gruta is a clinical pharmacist who specializes in antiretroviral therapy for HIV and AIDS patients at the UCSF Men of Color Program. Gruta works with doctors and nurses to design and optimize drug therapy. She is a senior pharmacy consultant for three national provider consultation lines — the HIV Telephone Consultation Service (HIV Warmline), Post-exposure Prophylaxis Hotline (PEPline) and Perinatal HIV Hotline and Referral Service. She also serves as a pharmacist consultant for the California State Office of AIDS.
In her research, she studies opportunistic infection prophylaxis trends and antiretroviral usage. She earned a Ph.D. in Pharmacy at the UCSF School of Pharmacy in 1994 and completed two pharmacy residencies — one in Pharmacy at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia and one in HIV/AIDS at San Francisco General Hospital. She is an assistant clinical professor of Clinical Pharmacy and Family and Community Medicine.
