David Shimabukuro, MDCM

Dr. David Shimabukuro is an anesthesiologist and a specialist in critical care medicine.

Shimabukuro's research revolves around sepsis (a serious condition of inflammation throughout the body in response to infection) and septic shock (sepsis that has advanced to a life-threatening state). He focuses on machine-learning algorithms that predict septic shock, organ failure and overall in-hospital mortality.

Shimabukuro earned his medical degree at McGill University. He completed a residency in anesthesiology and a fellowship in critical care medicine at UCSF.
