Welcome to UCSF Medical Center. We realize that hospitals and clinics can seem overwhelming, especially when you're ill. This section of our site includes many of the services and facilities we offer as well as guidelines for requesting appointments, billing and preparing for a hospital stay.
To ensure a smooth visit, you may find it helpful to review this information — Getting Care, Additional Support, Your Hospital Stay, Billing & Records, Maps & Directions, including public transportation and shuttles, and Parking.
If you have any special needs, please talk to your doctor or nurse about services available. Some of our special services include:
Interpreter services are available in many languages including Cantonese, Mandarin, Spanish and Russian. We also provide interpreters in American Sign Language. If your English is limited or if you are speech or hearing impaired, please ask your doctor or nurse to contact us and an interpreter will be requested at no cost to you.
If you are hearing impaired, pay phone TTYs (Telephone Text) — also known as TDDs (telecommunication devices for the deaf) — are available throughout the hospital. We provide bedside TTYs, phone amplifiers, pocket talkers and closed captioned television for patients. Medical center operators are available 24 hours a day by TTY.
Books on tape are provided by Volunteer Services for visually impaired hospital patients. To request books on tape, contact Volunteer Services at (415) 353-1196 or 3-1196 when calling from a hospital phone.
UCSF Medical Center has partnered with Skype to connect hospital patients with family and friends who are unable to visit in person. The Skype video and voice-calling program is available to patients during their stay in UCSF hospitals.
Using designated laptop computers with Skype software, patients can have virtual visits on a secure network.
Laptops also are available to patients for Internet access.
To borrow a laptop, call Volunteer Services.
