Geronima Cortese-Jimenez serves as the nurse navigator for the Urology Clinic at Mount Zion. She helps new genitourinary cancer outpatients navigate the health care system and works with the entire team to ensure each patient receives the best possible care in a timely manner.
Cortese-Jimenez earned a bachelor's degree in Anthropology at George Mason University. Subsequently, she completed a master's degree in Public Health at George Washington University. Although she enjoyed public health, she wanted patient contact, so Cortese-Jimenez returned to nursing school at Mary Mount University and became a registered nurse. She is also an oncology certified nurse through the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) and an ONS Leadership Development Institute graduate.
Cortese-Jimenez has copublished research on complementary and integrative therapies used to manage the side effects of cancer and its treatments. She has presented on various oncology topics nationally and internationally for organizations such as the ONS and Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. She was the presenter at the Second Annual Oncology Nursing Congress in Viña del Mar, Chile in April 2011.
