The Department of Nursing at UCSF Medical Center and UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital is at the forefront of innovation in patient care, implementing the latest evidence-based nursing practice on behalf of our patients. Our nursing philosophy reflects the mission, vision and values of UCSF Medical Center as we interact with our patients, colleagues and staff.
Our nurses have earned the prestigious Magnet designation for excellence in nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Less than 7 percent of the nation's 5,700 hospitals registered with the American Hospital Association were awarded Magnet status as of 2011. Hospitals must reapply for the designation every four years. Read more in a news release about this achievement.
Each of the 30,000 patients admitted to the hospital each year — as well as the patients who make about 750,000 visits annually to our clinics — benefit from the expertise and dedication of our more than 2,500 nurses.
Please visit the Nursing Web site to find out more about UCSF nursing and learn about our accomplishments in clinical quality, clinical practice, research and innovation, and professional development.
