

Geriatrician
Dr. Helen Kao is a geriatrician at the Lakeside Senior Medical Center and founder of the Geriatric Transitions, Consultation and Comprehensive Care (GeriTraCCC) at UCSF Medical Center. She is dedicated to caring for older adults and leads efforts at UCSF to expand access to geriatric care for the community's frailest older adults. She spearheaded a partnership between UCSF and Lifelong Medical Care, a community health organization, to provide primary care, house calls and hospital care through the Over 60 Health Center in Berkeley. Kao was appointed medical director of Geriatric Clinical Programs at UCSF in 2010, and oversees both the GeriTraCCC and UCSF Housecalls services.
Kao completed a residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Geriatrics at UCSF. She is board certified in Internal Medicine, Geriatrics, and Hospice and Palliative Care Medicine. Prior to her medical training, she worked at the Harvard AIDS Institute on projects promoting HIV prevention for underserved communities. She has been recognized by awards of distinction for her patient care and her teaching. She is an assistant professor in Geriatrics at UCSF.
