James Curtis, CCC-SLP, M.S.

Speech and language pathologist

James Curtis is a speech-language pathologist at the UCSF Voice and Swallowing Center in the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, specializing in voice, swallowing and head- and neck-cancer rehabilitation. His clinical and scholarly interests include multidisciplinary patient care, evidence-based practice of voice and swallowing therapy, perioperative rehabilitation, alaryngeal voice restoration and advanced analysis of objective voice and swallowing diagnostic techniques including videostroboscopy and videofluoroscopic swallow studies.

Curtis joined the voice and swallowing center in 2013 to complete his clinical fellowship and stayed on as a member of the multidisciplinary team. He earned his master's degree in speech-language pathology from New York University and a bachelor's in vocal performance and pre-medical studies from Michigan State University. Curtis trained at NYU Langone Medical Center's Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine, NYU Voice Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the NYU Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic. In addition to his training as a speech-language pathologist, Curtis has more than 10 years of classical singing experience.

His professional affiliations include the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, ASHA's Voice and Voice Disorders and Swallowing Disorder special interest groups and the Voice Foundation.
