Mark Courey, M.D.

Director of the UCSF Voice Center

Dr. Mark Courey is an otolaryngologist specializing in voice, airway and swallowing disorders at UCSF Medical Center. He is the director of Laryngology and the medical director of the UCSF Voice and Swallowing Center. Courey specializes in the management of professionals with vocal difficulties, vocal fold paralysis, airway obstruction, spasmodic dysphonia, respiratory papillomatosis, vocal fold nodules, polyps and cysts and laryngeal cancer. Courey conducts research on rehabilitation of the paralyzed larynx, extra esophageal reflux disease (EER) and the evaluation of laryngeal response to surgical intervention and injection laryngoplasty.

Courey earned a medical degree at the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, State University of New York at Buffalo. He completed a residency in surgery at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston and a residency in otolaryngology - head and neck surgery at State University of New York at Buffalo. He completed a fellowship in laryngology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville where he directed the Vanderbilt Voice Center for 12 years. Courey came to UCSF Medical Center in 2004, where he is a professor of clinical otolaryngology.
