Nurse practitioner and research coordinator
Mary Rubin is a nurse colposcopist, who examines patients with abnormal Pap smears, in the Gynecology Dysplasia Clinic and Anal Neoplasia Clinic at the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. She is also a research coordinator for Gynecological Oncology. Rubin earned a nursing diploma at the Johnstown Mercy Hospital School of Nursing and a bachelor of science, master of science and doctorate of philosophy in nursing at the University of Pennsylvania.
She is the recipient of many awards, including Nurse Practitioner in Women's Health 1994 Nurse Practitioner of the Year Award; American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology 1998 Meritorious Award, the society's 2004 Meritorious Award for exemplary service and 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award in colposcopy, and 2009 Susan Wysocki Leadership Award. In 2010, she was inducted as a fellow of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Rubin serves on the California Breast and Cervical Cancer Advisory Committee and Office of Family Planning Cervical Cancer Committee. Nationally, she sits on the Human Papillomavirus and Cervical Cancer Advisory Committee for several organizations. Rubin has authored numerous articles and chapters on women's health care and disease of the lower genital tract. She is a health sciences clinical professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences and an associate clinical professor of Nursing.
