

Anesthesiologist
Matthias Behrends graduated from the University of Gottingen School of Medicine in 1996. He trained in anesthesiology at the department of anesthesiology at the University of Essen. He is board certified in anesthesiology and spent three years as a post-doctoral scholar in the department of pathophysiology at the University of Essen, investigating myocardial hibernation and ischemic preconditioning.
Behrends joined the department of anesthesiology and perioperative care at UCSF in 2004. His research interests are optimizing treatment strategies in regional anesthesia.
