Dr. Mekhail Anwar is a radiation oncologist who cares for patients with cancer. He is particularly interested in using new imaging techniques to help guide treatments.
In his research, Anwar focuses on developing technologies that better detect microscopic cancer as well as facilitate more precise and less toxic treatment. He has authored articles on sensors that can be embedded in tumors and nearby tissues.
Anwar has received many honors for his research, including a Trailblazer Award from the National Institutes of Health, the Novocure Career Development Award from the American Association for Cancer Research, and the Prostate Cancer Physician Research Award from the Department of Defense.
Anwar earned his medical degree and completed a residency in radiation oncology at UCSF. He has also studied electrical engineering, earning a master's degree from the University of California, Berkeley, as well as a doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he focused on using small sensors and integrated circuits to detect microscopic cancer.
