Considering bariatric surgery for weight loss? To be considered for the procedure at the UCSF Bariatric Surgery Center, patients must complete a comprehensive evaluation process.
UCSF is one of the few centers in the country that offers bariatric procedures to obese patients with end-stage kidney or liver disease who would otherwise be exluded from an organ transplant because of weight. Procedures also are offered to treat conditions such as type 2 diabetes and obstructive sleep apnea.
We are accredited as a Level 1 center by the Bariatric Surgery Center Network of the American College of Surgeons, which means we have the resources to provide complete bariatric surgical care, have a high volume of patients and can manage the most challenging and complex conditions.
Learn more about the UCSF Bariatric Surgery Center, treatments offered and its experts by attending a free information session on Wednesday morning.

To be considered for bariatric surgery, you must weigh less than 450 pounds because our hospital X-ray equipment can't accommodate patients who weigh more. A nutritionist is available to help you lose weight to meet this requirement, if necessary. See more information about the evaluation process at UCSF Bariatric Surgery Center, under Requirements.
