Cancer Resource Center

The Ida and Joseph Friend Cancer Resource Center at Mount Zion supports wellness and healing by providing patients, families, caregivers and others with information about cancer treatments, emotional support and community resources.

The center maintains a library of books and other media; provides access to the Web and health databases; and offers personalized research assistance.

The center — which is part of the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center — hosts activities such as support groups, exercise classes and workshops and directs people to other community resources.

Its library offers comfortable areas to read or view DVDs, sip tea and relax. Library materials are available on loan.

Staff members and volunteers help visitors research cancer-related topics and find information online and in print. The center provides a computer for patients and families to browse the Web and health-related databases.

The center's programs include Art for Recovery, Peer Support, Survivorship, Symptom Management and Psycho-oncology.

The center helps patients with:

  • Communicating with your doctor and questions to ask
  • Coping with chemotherapy
  • Diet and nutrition consultation
  • Evaluating health information
  • Medical appointment planning
  • Information on clinical trials
  • Smoking cessation
