The HIV and Aging Program focuses on the special needs of people over age 50 who are living and aging with chronic HIV infection. Due to advances in HIV treatments, those with HIV are living longer and often develop multiple medical conditions that require specialized care.
Older adults are one of the fastest growing demographic groups among HIV and AIDS patients.
This program is committed to maintaining the health of patients and enhancing their long-term quality of life through comprehensive care provided by doctors, dietitians, pharmacists and social workers at UCSF who specialize in the treatment of HIV and AIDS.
The program, which is part of the HIV/AIDS Program at UCSF Medical Center, is actively researching issues affecting older patients ,who have HIV antibodies, such as the causes of increased cardiovascular disease.
