HIV Women's Program

The HIV Women's Program provide expert, culturally sensitive care for HIV-infected women as well as their children, who may or may not be HIV positive. The program addresses the concern that HIV-positive women often neglect their own medical needs because they're caring for dependents.

The service was established under the direction of Dr. Ruth Greenblatt, an infectious disease specialist, and now is directed by Dr. Edward Machtinger, an internist and HIV specialist.

Services offered include:

  • Access to extensive social, legal and housing services
  • Health care for mothers and their children
  • Opportunities to enroll in clinical trials

The team includes experts in infectious disease, obstetrics, gynecology and pediatrics. Developmental psychologists and psychotherapists, nutritionists, pharmacists and social workers also are members of the team.

Volunteer lawyers provide legal advice on issues such as worker's rights, guardianship and estate planning.
