Psycho-oncology is part of the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. Staff members, including psychologists and psychiatrists who provide emotional and supportive care to patients and their families, are trained in behavioral and medication approaches that help patients facing cancer, cancer treatment and cancer survivorship.
The team works closely with cancer center providers in identifying and addressing psychosocial distress, including challenges with adjusting to illness, the stresses of medical treatment, emotional needs, relationships and caregiving, coping with pain, insomnia and other symptoms. An important part of the mission is to raise the standard of psychosocial care throughout the cancer center.
Team members also collaborate with other supportive care programs, such as the Cancer Resource Center, Social Work, Spiritual Care and the Cancer Symptom Management, to provide the best possible care for our patients and their families.
Our services are available to UCSF patients and their family members.
