Katelin Kramer

MD MS

Neonatologist
Bay Area native and mother of twins

Dr. Katelin Kramer is a neonatologist, a specialist in caring for premature infants and other newborns needing critical care. She has a particular interest in treating extremely preterm infants, with a focus on supporting healthy brain development, limiting painful procedures and encouraging early skin-to-skin contact with parents. She sees patients in the hospital and provides follow-up care in the clinic.

In her research, Kramer looks at how to improve the quality of care in neonatal intensive care units, particularly those that may impact brain development. She has led projects to shorten the length of treatments for neonatal seizures and to increase the practice of delayed umbilical cord clamping, which has been shown to improve the health of preterm infants.

Kramer earned her medical degree and a master's degree in physiology from Georgetown University. At UCSF, she completed a residency in pediatrics and a fellowship in neonatology.

Kramer supervises fellows, residents and medical students at UCSF and at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center. She also provides support and consultations for MarinHealth Medical Center. Her honors for research and teaching include the American Academy of Pediatrics/Vermont Oxford Network Scholar Award in 2020, the UCSF Excellence and Innovation Award in Graduate Medical Education in 2021 and the California Association of Neonatologists' Bhatt-Ramanathan Scholarship Award.
