The UCSF Patient Health Library is an information resource at UCSF Medical Center at Mount Zion. The library is open to the public and has medical books and journals, health newsletters, access to the Internet and more.

A professional medical librarian is available for assistance in researching health and medical information.

Services include:

The librarians at the H.M. Fishbon Memorial Library have master degrees in library and information science:

Faxing, Printing, Scanning Fees

The library provides faxing services within the Bay Area or to toll-free numbers at no charge. Documents also can be scanned to electronic files for free.

Fees for printing and long-distance faxing are:

• Printing and photocopying — 15 cents per page
• Faxing — 50 cents per page within the U.S.; $1 per page for international

Background

The library is an extension of the H.M. Fishbon Memorial Library, the medical library at Mount Zion. It began with a donation from a former patient Margaret Carter, who funded the development of a consumer health information collection called "HealthWorks" in 2003. Patient demand soon exceeded the capacity of the Fishbon library and in 2008, plans were developed to create a separate patient library.

The Mount Zion Health Fund provided funds to remodel the library space and a donation from Dr. Leonard D. Rosenman, a long-time doctor at Mount Zion, supported the hiring of a librarian for the Patient Health Library, which opened in December 2009.
