Dr. Tarun Arora is a neurosurgeon who directs UCSF's extension neurosurgery practices at four Bay Area community hospitals. He cares for patients in UCSF's Greenbrae clinic and is director of neurosurgery at MarinHealth Medical Center. He specializes in instrumented surgery (using implements such as plates and rods) as well as minimally invasive techniques for degenerative and traumatic spinal disorders, brain and spinal tumors, intracerebral hemorrhage, stroke, head and spinal trauma, and other neurovascular disorders.

In his research, Arora addresses techniques to repair cerebrospinal fluid leakage at the skull base after brain surgery. He is also involved in developing rehabilitation protocols for spinal disorders, brain injuries and disorders affecting posture and balance.

Arora earned his medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine. He completed a residency in neurosurgery at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.

    I am very fortunate to have found a doctor who seems to be a very good caring person as well as an excellent doctor. He LISTENS and pays attention to what I say more than other doctors do. His final words during our meeting were "I will get you there". That confidence and certainty meant a great deal to me. That there is a plan in place to get me there is very reassuring.     Could not ask for more from this provider. He is exceptional in every way. Comes across as genuinely caring never makes you feel as if you are taking up too much of his time even though you probably are always answers all questions and is a competent and thorough diagnostician

    I brought up other treatment options (ie look at previous MRIs to compare ). Didn't seem interested but we went that route before making any future treatment plans. My McLean Is old. He doesn't need to go through unnecessary MRIs

    Very frustrated that I was prescribed Physical Therapy at the six week mark and there's no availability for physical therapy for weeks. I had asked over email about physical therapy after the injury and was told to wait for the six week mark. Little did I know it would be impossible to make an appointment at that time. I'm making the assumption that the care provider knows it's difficult to make a physical therapy appointment immediately and it would have been helpful if when I asked that was communicated so we could've planned ahead.

    Dr. Arora was fantastic. I'd seen a few neurosurgeons for my issue and he was the only one that was able to give me specific answers as far as what my problem was what would happen if left untreated and what needed to be done. Then we did it in a very timely fashion. No vague wishy washy answers or "I don't knows" or "wait and see." I really appreciated his assertive approach and ability to give solid answers and explanations. Very glad he was my neurosurgeon.

    I feel like he wants to try procedures that I've already tried several times already to no avail. I feel like he didn't really listen or believe me when I said the treatments already tried never gave me ANY relief at all. I'm afraid he's going to put me through that same treatment again when it's not going to work and I know it. After 15 years of agonizing pain I can't bear it any longer.

    The care provider was/is great. I have no issues with them or staff. My issues concern management (or the lack thereof) of the clinic. I have had a terrible experience over the last 6 to 7 months with the lack of structure responsiveness and communication with the staff. I truly think they (staff) are competent but terribly overworked and lacking good supervision and checks and balances. It's a real shame. The doctors seem to be terrific but management of the practice is failing them. That is why I would be very hesitant to recommend UCSF. I would not want anyone to go through what I have experienced.

    Arora explained everything about my brain surgery prior to surgery and what I should expect afterwards too. He also explained How long I'd be home and what the medications will do for me and how to take them. He is extremely through.I was totally ready for surgery (my first surgery in my lifetime) and what he was going to do to remove my tumor. He is a fantastic Surgeon; I love this man.

    Dr. Arora is an excellent doctor in his field. I have a tumor on my brain which we have been watching for 4 years this year it started growing. Dr. Arora asked me if he could present my case to the doctors at a neurosurgeons conference as to whether he should remove the tumor or go with radiation I thought that was amazing to see he wanted a second opinion. It was unanimous from the convention and all suggested to remove it. We discussed this together and we're going to remove it. If you rate Arora 1 is horrible and 10 is Great I give Arora a 20 he's the best in all of California if not the USA. He's personable.
