Family physician

Dr. Betsy Wan is a family medicine doctor who provides comprehensive care to patients of all ages, taking an approach that emphasizes collaboration. She has special interests in family planning services, women's health and minor outpatient procedures.

Wan earned her medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. She then completed a residency in family medicine at St. Louis University, serving as chief resident during her final year.

Prior to joining UCSF, Wan served for two years as curriculum and scholarship director of the family medicine residency program at St. Louis University, where she was also an assistant professor. During that time, she practiced both hospital medicine and primary care at a federally qualified health center, a facility that provides medical care regardless of the ability to pay.

Wan belongs to the American Academy of Family Physicians, North American Primary Care Research Group and Society of Teachers of Family Medicine.

    This doctor saved my life and help me get back to a place where I can be self confident to push forward to full recovery. I can't even express fully how thankful I am. She isn't my therapist but she has been there for me to listen. I'm not exaggerating about her saving my life. I was lost unhappy addicted to drugs and felt I was alone in the fight. From 2013 to our first meeting no doctor cared. I was a junky. I asked for help and was told to go rehab for months cause they couldn't help. Rehab went bad and I felt alone. She showed me I shouldn't be ashamed. No matter the relapse mistake my depression pushing me to use She was there. I felt ashamed going in after a relapse. I thought she will throw me away like everyone else. She didn't. She told me you see the relapse for a day or 2 as a failure but she saw it as most of the month I fought to be clean. So she was happy of the days I didn't use instead of focusing on the days I didn't. Now I have been off pain killers heroin fentanyl since beginning if march. The longest time I ever went without a relapse. My family who should have supported me didn't but I had her. Sometimes a single ray if light can help you see so you can move forward. She is my light. She is my support and she has renewed my faith that some doctors do care.

    Dr. Wan was very diligent about addressing all my areas of concern. She thoroughly assured that I was fully up to date on my vaccinations and prescriptions as well as providing valuable input on how to better treat my recurrent asthma and protect my pulmonary health.

    I'm in healthcare myself and I would never leave a patient in a room waiting for 55 minutes. It would have been nice if she at least popped in and said I'll be right there or at least tell her assistant to do that but there was none of that it was only after we were leaving she came out running which leads me to believe she was not with a patient a different doctor saw that we were leaving and must have told her we were going and that is why she came out. She didn't come out because we had an appointment she came out because we were leaving for waiting 55 minutes

    Dr. Wan is exceptional (which is probably why she is so heavily scheduled). She is patient compassionate and well informed. I'm going through some difficult times and she was outstanding. It was a bit tricky to finally get the appt but when I did it was excellent.

    I've been a patient of Dr. Wan since 2019. I saw her no more than 3 or 4 times in total. They're mainly wellness appointments. I have had a very good experience during all my visits. Dr. Wan never rushed me but listened and explained things/info to me. Thank you for your professionalism.
