To prepare for your Cardiovascular Genetics Program appointment, please gather detailed information on any medical problems that run in your family. If someone in your family has died from a heart condition, please try to get a copy of the autopsy report. Also, ask family members whether they've had health problems that sound like yours or problems such as:

• Difficulty with exercise and asthma-like symptoms that don't improve with the use of an inhaler
• Fainting, blackouts or seizures that can't be treated with standard seizure medications
• Heart failure before age 50
• Palpitations or abnormal heart rhythms at a young age
• Shortness of breath, fatigue and weakness
• Sudden cardiac death
